A new group has formed with a mission to get more women involved in the political process.

Based in Dawson County but pulling from all counties in the new 9th congressional district, the Foothills Republican Women is a grassroots organization that promotes an informed public through political education and activity by increasing the effectiveness of women in government.

"The movement is grassroots to educate people in the community, specifically focused on women," said President Linda Clary-Umberger. "Women are very significant in this upcoming national election, and we want to see more women get involved in the political process."

Men are invited to join as associate members.

The group, which has now met twice, plans to apply for a charter with the National and Georgia Federations of Republican Women.

The group's next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. July 23 in the community room at Dawson County Fire Station No. 2 on Hwy. 53 East, next to Tractor Supply.
