Music lovers in Dawson County will have a unique opportunity to hear the debut performance of a brand new vocal octet this week.
Octapella will present a free program featuring a cappella Christmas and holiday music Thursday at Grace Presbyterian Church in Dawsonville.
The group features two local performers, Jeanne Luke and David Jordan, who serve Grace as choir director and pastor, respectively.
Other talented vocalists from across north Georgia also contribute to the ensemble.
The program will include several richly textured and technically astounding arrangements of seasonal favorites for eight unaccompanied voices, and a handful of solos and duets by the various performers.
"It's a quintessential vocal experience that will be a pleasant surprise for anyone who hears it," Jordan said. "This group of musicians is one of the most talented ensembles I have been blessed to sing with."
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be presented without charge.
Afterward, guests will be invited to enjoy refreshments at a reception in the church's fellowship hall.
"The concert is designed to appeal to a wide variety of folks, and is a good way to help people to experience the joy of the season with extraordinary vocal music presented by skilled performers," Luke said. "We hope that many people will attend and help us to make this a brand new beloved Christmas tradition for our community."
