Longtime editor Stephanie Woody has been named general manager of the Dawson Community News.

Norman Baggs, general manager for Swartz-Morris Media, owner of the newspaper, made the announcement last week.

As general manager, Woody will have oversight of all the content, operational and business functions of the Dawson Community News, its various special sections and the dawsonnews.com website.

"This promotion is in recognition of the important role Stephanie has played for some time in the day-to-day business operation of the Dawson Community News. We have a lot of things planned for the newspaper's future, and are very comfortable knowing Stephanie is the person in charge," Baggs said.

Woody joined the Community News in May 2002 as a legal clerk. She was promoted to editor in November 2006.

"I'm excited about my new role with the Dawson Community News," she said. "I look forward to providing our readers with the same level of service and quality they have come to expect."

Woody works with a number of organizations around the county, such as the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and membership committee and is a member of the R.E.A.D. board. She was named Ambassador of the Year in 2013.

She and husband Robbie have three children, Kenadie, Braxton and Asher, and are members of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Cumming.
