Motorsports park may open in September

Weather has delayed by at least six months the opening of a motorsports park in western Dawson County.

Founder and CEO Jeremy Porter said Atlanta Motorsports Park on Duck Thurmond Road could be open as early as September.

“Last week was about the first week we had in months that we didn’t have rain or weather slowing us down,” he said during the May 20 meeting of the Dawson County Jaycees.

The park will feature two miles of track designed for both two- and four-wheel vehicles, a fast straightaway, rental garages and a clubhouse.

Hiking trails, a fitness center, pool, tennis courts and a small restaurant are also in the plans.

Porter said the track will be available for community use, such as teenage driver improvement clinics and walking trails, during evening hours.

“My goal with this business is to really impact Dawson County positively,” Porter said.
