Officials have released the name of the man killed in yesterday's crash on Hwy. 53 West.

According to Dawson County Coroner Ted Bearden, William Christopher Pittman, 32, whose address is listed as Dawsonville, died at the scene.

A funeral home in McCaysville is in charge of the arrangements, Bearden said.

Traffic was partially shut down as authorities investigated the fatal collision involving Pittman's motorcycle and a dump truck.

Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Tim Meyer said Pittman was following a vehicle and a dump truck when he attempted to pass both on a double yellow line, headed toward to Dawsonville. At the same time, the driver of the dump truck was slowing to turn left into a private driveway.

"The motorcycle hit the dump truck in the left lane as the truck was turning into the driveway," Meyer said.

The wreck, which was reported about 3:45 p.m., occurred just inside Dawson County, near the Pickens County line.

Meyer said the driver of the truck was not cited in the crash.
