Viewers of NBC-TV’s “Today” show will get an up-close look Thursday morning at the inner workings of the Kangaroo Conservation Center in Dawson County.

Founders/directors Roger and Debbie Nelson, and the park’s young marsupials, will make the trip to New York’s Rockefeller Plaza, where they will appear live on the show’s set with hosts Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Ann Curry and Al Roker.

A “Today” producer and Georgia-based video crew spent the day of June 18 filming the center’s employees working with the nine species of kangaroos in the 87-acre park.

“We are extremely pleased to further our mission of preserving these wonderful creatures to a nationwide audience on the ‘Today’ show,” Roger Nelson said in a news release.

The Kangaroo Conservation Center is dedicated to the preservation of kangaroo species through captive breeding and public education. It features the largest kangaroo collection outside of Australia.
