For five years now, local brothers Jack and Max Zappendorf have been collecting nonperishable food for the RIC Rack Thrift Shop and Food Pantry the week before Christmas.

Jack, 18, and Max, 16, are both Eagle Scouts and look forward to the tradition each year, according to their mom Seanie.

In 2013, the family collected 190 lbs.; in 2014 they collected 280 lbs.; in 2015 570 lbs. and in 2016 1,037 lbs. This year, they collected almost 1400 pounds of food.

Angela McKinzie, member of the RIC Rack team, thanked the family for their contributions.

"Thank you so much for continuing to bless us,” she said. “We greatly appreciate it."

RIC Rack Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
