Lanier Islands never stops looking toward the future.
Grier Todd, vice president of Lake Lanier Islands, announced during a South Hall Business Coalition meeting on Jan. 15 that this past year has proved successful through the recent partnership with Margaritaville developer Safe Harbor Development.
Todd said people can expect to see the opening of Margaritaville at Lanier Islands’ RV Resort this spring.
Construction for the RV Resort began in June 2018 and is expected to reach completion by April.
When it opens, people will have access to 45 RV sites and an additional 80-100 sites by late 2019.
Amenities will be provided like 22-by-50-foot concrete pads, electrical outlets, Wi-Fi and cable TV.
Geared toward a high-end luxury market, the RV Resort will be connected to a marina, beach, on-site dining venues, water park and a golf course.
Another project on the horizon includes the planning of a 300-room hotel joined to a conference convention center at Lanier Islands. Todd said the conference center hotel will be on the old PineIsles Resort side of Lake Lanier Islands.
“Last year the state appropriated some funds for us to do an economic impact, market study, initial design and plans for a new conference center hotel,” Todd said. “That’s what we’re in the middle of right now.”
Todd said he anticipates that the study will reach completion in the near future.
“Then we’ll hopefully be able to get the project kicked off,” he said. “That will be a huge economic boom for this area if we could get that 300-room hotel with a convention center attached to it in the process.”
