Dawson County Schools are back in business on Friday.

Though summer hardly seems to be winding down, kids across the county will move back into classrooms on Aug. 5. The school year brings with it several changes including realignments in grades six through 12.

This school year there will be only one middle school-Dawson County Middle-which was once known as Riverview Middle School. Faculty and staff are preparing for around 550 students in sixth and seventh grades at the campus.

Eighth graders will have the new Dawson County Junior High School all to themselves on the site of the former Dawson County Middle. Next year, eighth graders will join the ninth grade class when they remain at that campus.

There are a few changes to school start times this year according to the Dawson County Schools web site.

All four elementary schools will operate from 7:50 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

DCMS will run from 7:45 a.m.-2:45 p.m.

DCJHS will also begin at 7:45 a.m., but will dismiss at 2:30 p.m.

Dawson County High School will start at 7:40 a.m. and will dismiss at 2:30 p.m.

Transportation information will be available during the open houses at the respective schools.

Open houses are also running next week beginning at the elementary schools from 3 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 2.

The DCMS open house will go from 3 to 6 p.m., while both the DCJHS and DCHS will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 3.
