The City of Dawsonville has canceled it’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration, which was set to be held at Atlanta Motorsports Park.

According to Dawsonville Mayor Mike Eason, making the decision to cancel the annual celebration was difficult, but due to COVID-19 safety concerns, city officials thought cancelling would be best for all involved.

“I just think it’s one of those chancy things we don’t want to risk,” Eason said.

Added to that, Eason said because the city has to prepay the company they use for fireworks well in advance and they don’t know yet if orders from Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp would even allow a mass gathering the fireworks celebration would require. If the event were canceled at a later date, the city could lose more than $10,000, Eason said.
