Local shoppers looking for groceries, clothing and home improvement goods were out of luck Wednesday evening after a power outage shutdown several big-box retailers along Ga. 400 in Dawson County.

Adam Emrich with Georgia Power said high winds just after 5 p.m. are to blame for power going out at Ingles, Walmart, Home Depot and Kroger, which are all serviced by the provider.

"Due to safety concerns, this situation required line workers from multiple utilities to work together to safely make repairs and restore power to our customers," he said.

Power was restored to all customers by 8:30 p.m.

"We appreciate our customers' patience in storm situations like this, where our teams work to safely and efficiently restore power to our customers," Emrich said. "We remain committed to continually look for ways to improve reliability in the Dawsonville area."
