A local volunteer board that educates residents on the dangers of substance abuse is looking to change its name, and it’s enlisting the help of creative minds.

Board member Nancy Stites said Meth Task Force of Dawson County has changed its scope over the past several years.

“The data we’re gathering and conversations from the sheriff’s office and schools is that meth use has decreased, and prescription drugs are on the rise,” Stites said.

She said the board looks to “broaden its reach” to include “tobacco, alcohol, prescription drugs and illegal drugs.”

Meth Task Force is looking for interested residents to submit ideas for the group’s new name.

Anyone who submits the winning name will receive a $50 gift certificate to Longhorn’s Steakhouse. The deadline is April 9.

Stites said the group is looking for a more accurate title.

“We wanted to let people know that it’s an all-volunteer board, and citizens of the county, whose goal is education and prevention ... for a drug free county.”
