The Hall County Master Gardeners Spring Garden Expo is back again and will soon fill the Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center with plants of almost every kind.

Guests interested in purchasing plants for their yards and gardens this spring can check out the 40-plus vendors at the agricultural center 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 5 and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6 for just $2.

“It’s exciting and it’s fun,” said Irene Michaud, co-organizer of the event. “You work with great people and get to meet a lot of the customers that come in and it’s like you’re kind of giving back to the community.”

Back for another year, the expo hopes to answer all the questions local gardeners — young and old — may have. After being a part of the Master Gardeners for 10 years and seeing her fair share of garden expos, that’s still Michaud’s favorite part.

“If they have a question about something in their yard, a plant or anything, we have an ‘Ask a Master Gardener’ booth,” Michaud said. “So they can go ask them and get some really good feedback.”

This year the expo will feature four speakers on different aspects of caring for plants in North Georgia.

At 11 a.m. Friday, one of the expo’s vendors will teach a session called “Enjoying Ferns: Indoors and Out.” Later, at 1 p.m., Ron Brechter, a Hall County Master Gardener will talk share “Everything You Need to Know About Tomatoes.”

At 11 a.m. Saturday, Master Gardener program coordinator Karin Hicks will give a talk about “Attracting Beneficial Insects for Organic Gardening,” and at 1 p.m., Carin Booth with the University of Georgia Extension Office in Hall County will tell visitors about “Planning for and Maximizing the Bounty of Your Garden.”

“The fact that you can learn about horticulture by going to the speakers and getting questions answered, there is a lot of good information that can be communicated to our customers,” Michaud said.

On top of the scheduled speakers, each vendor will be free to answer questions and recommend different things for gardens and yards.

“Our vendors bring in all kinds of interesting plants and they have good prices,” Michaud said.

There will be perennials, annuals, daylilies, ferns, azaleas, all types of trees, native plants and shrubs available for purchase. Michaud said there will also be vegetables and herbs at the expo.

Apart from plants, there will be different tools, garden and yard art, decorative pots and even local honey.

“Truly, the atmosphere is so joyous and pleasant that I think people really do enjoy coming every year,” Michaud said. “As long as you love gardening, you’ll enjoy coming.”
