Floats needed for parade

There's still time to have a float in this year's Christmas parade.

The parade, now in its second year, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in downtown Dawsonville.

With floats from various local organizations, churches and businesses, Santa also plans to be in town for the festivities.

The parade begins at the Historic Cemetery on Academy Avenue and ends at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex.

After the parade, attendees are invited to stick around for the annual tree lighting, set for 6 p.m. at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex.

Featuring Christmas carols by local singer Peyton Porter and the Chamber Singers, as well as performances by the Synergy cloggers, the fun also includes complimentary hot cocoa, children's activities, such as crafting, cookie decorating and visits with Santa.

Both events are free to attend, but there are some extra costs, such as food and photos with Santa.

For the parade, participation is free, but there will be a $20 fee if you want your entry to be judged after the event.

Those interested in having a float or group in the parade can contact the chamber at (706) 265-6278 or visit www.dawson.org for an application.
