Flash flood warning in effect for Dawson County

A flash flood warning is in effect for much of Northeast Georgia, including Dawson County, until 2:15 p.m. today.

Up to an inch of rain has already fallen, with another inch or two expected before noon, according to the warning issued by the National Weather Service.

Locations that will experience flooding, according to the weather service, include Gainesville, Dahlonega, Cleveland and Dawsonville.

The warning covers White, Forsyth, Dawson, Lumpkin, Banks and Jackson counties, among others.

The weather service warns that most flood deaths happen in vehicles, so drivers should turn around when encountering flooded roads.

Lake Lanier already is well above full pool, many parks have been flooded and closed and marinas are working to respond to the high lake levels.
