Your CBD Store Dawsonville opened its doors Friday, Sept. 20, with a promise to provide the best CBD oils, tinctures, water solubles, and topical creams on the market. It marks the first time a store dedicated to the contentious product has opened here in Dawson County.

There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding CBD oil. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound extracted from industrial hemp.

Here’s where the confusion starts.

Industrial hemp, while taxonomically the same plant as marijuana, is different in one main aspect. Hemp contains a maximum of three percent (by dry weight) THC. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive compound in marijuana that gives off the ‘high’ that is usually associated with marijuana.

Marijuana, by comparison, usually contains between five and 20 percent THC.

Since most CBD oils either contain either no THC or three percent THC, it will not result in a ‘high’ for the user.

“It’s not going to happen,” said Your CBD Store General Manager Jamie Buice about customers getting high from their products. “There are no psychoactive properties with our products here, so there’s no getting high. People are coming here to get help. They’re seeking help, whether it’s for focus — like ADD or ADHD — or help with inflammation or arthritis.”

The store sells products ranging from water soluble oils that you take with a glass of water, to tinctures applied in a few drops under the tongue, to topical creams that treat pain and inflammation.
