Fireworks postponed, rescheduled for Aug. 30

The annual Dawson Day Sparks in the Park fireworks show has been postponed due to the rain, organizers announced this morning.

With 100 percent chance of rain and flash flood warnings across north Georgia, Dawson County Parks and Recreation director Lisa Henson said the county has opted to have fireworks Aug. 30 to kick-off the Labor Day weekend.

"We're hoping this could be not only a Dawson County event, but a North Georgia event, because we'll be the only fireworks show that day," she said. "Having the fireworks on Aug. 30, we'll have it out in front of the Labor Day holiday, so if people have plans, they'll still be able to come to the fireworks show before they head out of town."

Henson said radar patterns showing similar weather for both Independence Day and Friday led to the decision to postpone for later in the summer.
