The Mountain Moonshine Festival has become one of the top locales in the southeast to see hotrods.

With as many as 800 cars on display during last year's festival, organizer Walt Simonds said he hopes to see even more this year.

"It's more of a good time than it is a car show. It's become a place where people can bring their cars and socialize with others car enthusiasts and collectors and have a good time," he said. "They look forward to the festival because it's a time for them to get back together.

This year's festivities in the parking lot of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame begin Friday with a cruise-in and swap meet. There is no cost to participate in the cruise-in.

The events continue Saturday and Sunday with a car shows both days. Awards will be given for a variety of different categories.

"We've had cars from as far away as Washington state and definitely from every state on the east coast," Simonds said.
