Motorists should expect traffic delays Saturday during the 2015 Bootlegger Marathon that will begin at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex.

The event will begin at 6:30 a.m. and should be completed by 2 p.m., according to Dawson County Sheriff Billy Carlisle.

"Expect traffic delays and some road closures for the duration of this event," he said.

The following roads will be affected:

Academy Avenue between Hwy. 9 South and Hwy. 53 East will be closed for a short period.

Allen Street will be closed for the duration.

Perimeter Road will be closed to through traffic from Hwy. 53 East to Shoal Creek Road. Residents of Perimeter Road will have access.

Howser Mill Road will be closed to through traffic. Only residents of Howser Mill Road will have access.

Hwy. 9 North will be reduced to one lane from Perimeter Road to Castleberry Bridge Road inside Lumpkin County. Traffic will be escorted through by deputies. This portion of the marathon should be completed by approximately 9:30 a.m.

Hwy. 9 South will be reduced to one lane with a detour in place for a short period early on.

There will be other runner crossing locations that will cause delays along Georgia 53 east and west.

Access to the Dawson County Library will be from Memory Lane only.

"We ask that you please be patient and plan accordingly. Please exercise caution while driving in this area," Carlisle said.
