Motorists traveling through Dawson County played a part in Dawson County Emergency Services last month collecting close to $8,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Emergency Services personnel took the streets Aug. 22 and 23 in the department’s annual fundraising effort for MDA, accepting donations at street corners and storefronts throughout the county.

“This is another example of the true colors of the people of Dawson County even in these hard economic times,” said Lanier Swafford, chief of emergency services. “Without the generosity of the people of this community, we could not have raised this money for this great charity.”

The MDA boot drive is one of two major fundraisers in which Dawson County Emergency Services participates each year with a boots for burns drive each spring. “This is one of two charities supported by fire fighters across the state,” Swafford said.

“I want to thank our employees, the fine men and women of Dawson County Emergency Services, for their support,” he added.
