The driver of a logging truck that overturned Friday afternoon, spilling logs onto the shoulder of Ga. 400, has been charged in connection with the incident.

Doyle Adams, 36, of Franklin, N.C., was cited for having an unsecured load and for operating a vehicle with suspended, cancelled or revoked registration, according to a Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman.

The wreck occurred about 2 p.m. Friday as Adams was attempting to turn left onto Ga. 400 from Dawson Forest Road.

According to witnesses at the scene, the load of logs appeared to have shifted during the turn.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, which shut down both northbound lanes of Ga. 400 for about 30 minutes.

Witnesses said Adams, who was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with cuts to his head, was conscious when the truck toppled over and was able to get out on his own.

“I spoke to him this morning,” the GSP spokeswoman said Monday. “He is doing fine.”

The state patrol’s mobile carrier compliance division, which responds to accidents involving commercial vehicles, handled the investigation.
