Detour plan revised for construction of roundabouts on State Route 9 at Dawson Forest Road
detour route

Plans to detour traffic at State Route 9 at Dawson forest Road have been updated.

Georgia DOT hosted a public detour open house March 12 to inform the Dawson County community about detours that would take place during the construction of dual roundabouts on State Route 9 at Dawson Forest Road.

After consideration and evaluation of community needs Georgia DOT has modified the staging of the project such that a detour will not be required during the summer months of the construction phase, according to a press release from GDOT.

Intersection access will remain open with the exception of a few days when temporary detours may be required as needed by the contractor. All disruptions to traffic will be minimized and advance notification will be given to the public when the contractor plans to detour traffic.

Contractors will be allowed to work Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. during the school year.

When traffic increases for leaf season between Oct. 1, and Nov. 15, lane closures will not be allowed between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays or Sundays.

More about this project:

This project proposes to construct two single-lane roundabouts at the intersections of State Route 9 and Dawson Forest Road.

The two roundabouts will be constructed independent from each other since the existing intersections are offset from each other.

The roundabouts would consist of a 140-ft inscribed diameter, 20-ft circulating lane, a 15-ft wide truck apron, and a 70-ft diameter center island.

Curb and gutter will be installed along the outside of the roundabouts with a mountable curb along the inside for the truck apron.
