Joshua Demarest has been named as editor of the Dawson County News.

The announcement was made by Brenda Bohn, general manager of the Dawson County News.

“We are excited to welcome someone of Josh's caliber to our team at the Dawson County News as editor,” Bohn said. “Josh brings to the role a wealth of experience in writing and publishing. His background coupled with his passion for local news, government and economic development make him an ideal fit for this position.”

As editor, Demarest will have oversight of all content of the Dawson County News, its various special sections, social media and the dawsonnews.com website.

His background includes politics, economic development and publishing.

“I am thrilled to be working and living in a community with as much character and natural beauty as Dawson County,” Demarest said. “I come from a small town in South Carolina originally, so I immediately fell in love with Dawsonville and knew it was a place where I wanted to plant my roots and start a family.”

Demarest, 28, moved to Dawsonville in May 2018 with his wife Bethany and three cats: Blizzard, Autumn and Archie.

“My biggest goal is to earn the trust of the people of Dawson County,” Demarest said.  “That relationship is the lifeblood of any good local paper, so my door is always open to members of the community to come discuss the news and issues they see going on around them every day.”
