Angels were among the ladies of Gold Creek Book Club Nov. 7 as the group took first place in Dawson County Arts Council’s Lunch at an Artful Table fundraiser.

The ladies used a variety of ornamental angels and classic, leather-bound books from their homes to create the winning table they called “Angels Among Us.”

Runner up winners were the Ladies of Gold Creek with Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Kaleidoscope, sponsored by the Heart in Hand Quilt Guild and Belles, Beads and Masquerade by the Dawson County Woman’s Club.

The luncheon is held annually and gives local professional and amateur designers the opportunity to show their creative sides as they decorate the tables.

Entries ranged from a Pacific Fusion, featuring elegant red silk, Asian fans and chopsticks, to RIC Rack Thrift Store’s Wedding on a Budget and Guineas by folk artist Cornbread.

“The designers outdid themselves,” said arts council director Marcia Chelf. “The tables were over the top this year.”

Described as the “perfect ladies afternoon” by Chelf, the luncheon is one of three fundraisers the arts council holds each year.

An Alice in Wonderland Tea Party and festival are planned for spring.

Chelf said proceeds from the events benefit arts council initiatives and programs, including the center’s monthly art shows, children’s theater and musical recitals held throughout the year.

“We want to thank all of our sponsors and all the participants. It was a great deal of fun,” Chelf said.
