The Dawson County High School class of 2018 will be receiving their diplomas May 24 in Dahlonega.

After 230 seniors pushed for a new location to hold their graduation, University of North Georgia’s new convocation center was selected as this year’s venue.

Dawson County Schools have asked guests to carpool to the event and arrive early. There are approximately 750 parking spaces near the new facility, though there are more parking areas available around the UNG Dahlonega campus.

Since UNG will not be in session, parking around the campus is also encouraged. The school system will be bussing the graduating seniors to the convocation center to help save parking spaces for family and friends.

Families are asked to plan ahead on where to meet their graduate after the ceremony. School officials will be asking everyone to exit the convocation center immediately after the ceremony so they can begin clean up.

Concessions of water and packaged snacks for small children will be sold.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and the graduation ceremony begins at 7 p.m. There is no ticket requirement for the ceremony, but guests should arrive early to find parking and ensure they get good seats in the facility.

The UNG Convocation Center is located at 180 Alumni Drive in Dahlonega.
