School officials say that Dawson County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay for Friday, Feb. 7, 2020 due to low temperatures expected over night and standing water from heavy rainstorms that scoured north Georgia all Thursday.

Bus routes and school start times will be delayed by two hours on Friday, the Dawson County School System said in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon.

Officials with the National Oceanic and Atmosphereic Administration (NOAA) expect that cold weather will follow storms through the north Georgia area on Thursday evening, possibly dropping temperatures 25 to 35 degrees colder than what has been experienced in recent days.

However many areas are expected to remain above freezing temperatures overnight. Black ice or snow accumulations are expected only in the higher elevations of north Georgia.
