Dawson County authorities working on large sinkhole at AutoZone

Dawson County Emergency Services personnel responded to a sinkhole that developed at AutoZone in Dawsonville.

At around 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 31, Dawson County E911 received reports of a sinkhole at 185 Ga. 400 in the AutoZone parking lot. 

According to a press release from Fire Chief Danny Thompson, fire units arrived on scene to find a 30-ft. by 30-ft. sinkhole in the front parking lot of AutoZone. Personnel secured the area with barricades. 

Public Works personnel were on scene to work with business owners on a remediation plan.

There were no injuries or damage reported to the buildings or vehicles. Etowah Water and Sewer Authority is inspecting the area to ensure no water and sewer lines have been comprised. The parking lot will remain closed until repairs have been made.Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
