The Office of Tourism Development of Dawson County will be holding a scenic ride through the county this weekend.

Shine Pedalers Metric Bike Ride will begin Saturday at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m.

The 100k ride will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 50k riders will start at 8 a.m.

All cyclists who pre-register also get a T-shirt. Anyone is welcome to register the day of the event, but T-shirts will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pre-registration is $25. Those who register on the day of the race will pay a $30 registration fee.

Chamber officials said the hope is that the event will build the cycling community and presence in the county and bring new trails and greenways into the county.

"We are excited to have partnered with our local bike shop, Northstar Bicycle, to create an excellent route to showcase the beauty of our community," said Christie Haynes, president of the chamber.

The riders will leave from the Dawsonville Municipal Complex. All turns will be clearly marked before and after turns along with support and gear stops every 12-15 miles with bananas, oranges, sandwiches and water. There will also be a support car on the road during the ride that can pick up riders in case of emergencies.

To pre-register for the event, go to www.dawson.org or www.active.com.
