The Office of Tourism Development of Dawson County is hosting the sixth annual ‘Shine Pedalers Metric Bike Ride next weekend.

The scenic ride through the county will begin Saturday, July 28 at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex. Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m.

The 100k ride will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 50k riders will start at 7:45 a.m.

Lunch begins at 10:45 a.m. and all support for the ride will end at 2 p.m.

The ride includes light breakfast, themed SAG stops, rolling support and lunch at the Georgia Racing hall of Fame. Metric riders will climb Burnt Mountain, best suited for experienced riders, and the half metric is open to all experience levels.

The riders will leave from and return to the Dawsonville Municipal Complex. All turns will be clearly marked before and after turns along with support and gear stops every 12-15 miles with bananas, oranges, sandwiches, water and other snacks. There will also be a support car on the road during the ride that can pick up riders in case of emergencies.

The inaugural event had 80 riders; last year the number had climbed to over 200.

Chamber of Commerce President Christie Haynes Moore said “we are thrilled to welcome cyclists from all over the Southeast to Dawson County for the sixth year in a row. This event allows us to showcase our beautiful community and active lifestyle.”

Registration is $45.

Event sponsors include Northstar Bicycle, Troncalli and the Georgia Racing hall of Fame.
