Data from the Georgia Department of Public Health shows that the 7-day average for COVID-19 cases in Dawson County may be on the downhill, as cases drop from the record-highs reported just weeks ago.
The virus’s highpoint in Dawson County was reported two weeks ago, when the county experienced several days of double-digit confirmed COVID-19 cases and a 7-day moving average of 16 confirmed cases per day, according to the DPH Daily COVID-19 report.
On Monday, Aug. 31, cases continued to slip down into the single digits, with only 3 new cases reported on Sunday, Aug. 30, and a 7-day moving average of 11.1 cases.

Despite this downturn, Dawson County remains a hotspot on the DPH COVID-19 map, second only in cases per 100,000 people to Lumpkin County, where virus numbers continue to climb.
Over the past week, 79 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Dawson County, along with six new hospitalizations and one new death.
