The local Alliance of Churches is expecting several hundred guests for the annual community Thanksgiving feast at the Lakeview Center next week.

The feast of turkey and all the trimmings, including a variety of desserts, will be served by volunteers from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the center, at 2057 Dawson Forest Road.

In its third year, the event is designed for those who find themselves alone or can't afford to travel to be with family for the holiday.

"Last year, we had more than 300 people have Thanksgiving dinner with us," said organizer Jim Bohl. "We're planning for about 400 this year."

The food, donated by the Church of Latter-day Saints and RIC Rack, will be prepared by volunteers from the group's respective churches.

This year, the Alliance of Churches has partnered with the Rotary Club of Dawson County to help sponsor the event.

Rotarian Scott Yochum said the club is proud to partner in the worthwhile cause that benefits the community this holiday season.

"We hope this gives members of our community who are alone for the holiday the chance to have a Thanksgiving dinner," he said.

The Alliance of Churches, which formed in Dawson County about four years ago, meets monthly to discuss concerns and opportunities to serve the community.
