The city of Dawsonville invites the community to town Friday for the annual Christmas tree lighting.

Santa Claus is also expected to make an appearance to hear what local children want for Christmas this year.

Festivities, including carolers and dancers will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex, followed by the lighting of the 26-foot tree at dark.

There will also be complimentary coffee, cocoa and cider, as well as a free photo with Santa.

Additional photos with Santa will be available for purchase.

"We encourage everyone to come out to kick-off the holiday season and enjoy the festivities, compliments of city hall and our local sponsors," said organizer Sarah Beacham, city accounting clerk.

For more information on the tree lighting, call city hall at (706) 265-3256.
