An 11-year-old child was listed in critical condition following a dirt bike wreck in western Dawson County Monday afternoon.

Chief Lanier Swafford, director of Dawson County Emergency Services, said the child was flown by helicopter to Egelston Children's Hospital.

The child was riding a motorcycle when he collided with a parked truck on Rosemary Drive off Nugget Ridge Road, according to Dawson County Sheriff's Maj. Ray Goodie.

Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Robin Stone said no charges would be filed in the crash as the child was at fault.

“The truck was parked in a driveway that links several residences. The driver of the truck was coming down a steep hill and the juvenile was coming up the hill,” she said. “The driver of the truck saw the motorcycle coming his way at a high rate of speed so he stopped where he was at. The motorcycle continued toward the truck and ran into it head on.”

Emergency workers on scene said the child was unresponsive upon arrival.

The child was transported by ambulance to the helicopter landing zone at Atlanta Motorsports Park just after 6 p.m.
