When's the last time a county commissioner asked to take your order?

The annual Dawson County Family Connection Celebrity Waiter Breakfast is scheduled for 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. June 17 and raises money for the nonprofit organization.

Held at Longhorn Steakhouse, the gathering will feature local "celebrities" such as County Attorney Joey Homans, Clerk of Courts Justin Power, City Councilman Calvin Byrd and county commissioners Jimmy Hamby, Gary Pichon and Julie Hughes Nix.

Nancy Stites, director of Family Connection, said it's "entertaining."

"It's fun, it doesn't take your weekend, we make it easy for people and it's not a huge commitment," Stites said.

She added that the food is good too.

"It's a buffet breakfast with anything you can possibly think of."

Those not wishing to stay for the event can grab a to-go plate. On the menu: Biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits and more.

Stites said last year's breakfast raised more than $3,000 for the nonprofit organization.

More than 200 diners attended the event.

As part of a statewide initiative of community collaborative partnerships, Dawson County Family Connection brings together community partners to help address the challenges facing children and families.
