Celebrity waiter breakfast is Friday

The community will be seeing stars on Friday for Family Connection's Celebrity Waiter breakfast.

Close to a dozen "celebrity" waiters will be pouring coffee, cleaning up spills and clearing plates during the sixth annual breakfast at LongHorn Steakhouse.

This will be Rep. Kevin Tanner's sixth year to participate.

"This is one of the most fun events in our community each year," he said. "I encourage everyone to come out. I'm thrilled to be able to help this worthwhile organization again this year."

The "celebrity" staff will also include county commissioners, city council members and a variety of volunteers from numerous service organizations.

There will also be live entertainment.

"We really ramped up the entertainment this year," said Marjean Miller with Family Connection. "We'll have singing, Booker the Dog from the library, the Chick-fil-A cow and even a clown this year. We're real excited about that."

More than 200 people attended last year's breakfast that raised more than $5,200. The funds were then reinvested in the community through various Family Connections programs that benefit local children.

Commission Chair Mike Berg, who represents the county on Family Connection's board of directors, said he looks forward to the event year after year.

"What a wonderful experience to bring the public out, not only to look at Family Connection, but the ability to get together to talk to one another, and that's just about as important to me," he said.

Part of a statewide initiative of community collaboratives, Family Connection brings community partners together to develop, implement and evaluate plans that address the serious challenges facing local children and families.

The buffet breakfast is $10 per person and will be available from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. for dine in, carry out and delivery along the Ga. 400 corridor.

"The delivery has been very popular. We already have three large companies participating and we're waiting on calls back from a couple more," Miller said.

Tickets are available the morning of the event and at the Family Connection office at 189 Hwy. 53 West, Suite 105. Tickets can also be purchased from Family Connection board members.
