Casino night benefits shelter

Critters living at the local animal shelter hope you’re feeling lucky Saturday for the Dawson County Humane Society’s inaugural Lucky Dog Casino night.

Tickets are still available for the event that will be held from 7-10 p.m. at the Dawsonville Municipal Complex.

Featuring Blackjack, Roulette, Craps and Texas Hold ’Em Poker, “the evening promises to be lots of fun,” said society president Carolyn Bowen.

Former Atlanta Falcons head coach Jerry Glanville will serve as the evening’s celebrity master of ceremonies.

The cost is $50 per person and includes all games, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. The ticket price also includes $3,000 in chips, with additional chips available for purchase.

A cash bar will also be available.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the animal shelter, which currently houses about 200 homeless animals.

“The funds we collect from this event and all of our events are used to help us accomplish our mission ... to provide shelter to homeless Dawson County dogs and cats and to provide for these animals’ basic needs while there,” Bowen said. “We are very proud of our wonderful shelter.”

So proud, in fact, that the name “Lucky Dog Casino” came from a painting of dogs playing poker that “is actually hanging in the restroom at the shelter,” Bowen said.

Casino night tickets can be purchased at both local Community & Southern Bank locations.
