Dawson County Parks and Recreation has canceled its annual “Breakfast with Santa” event.

“Santa recently informed us that he is not able to attend our Breakfast with Santa event this year, originally scheduled for Dec. 5,” A county press release said. “Adding that to the fact that we had already decided not to invite vendors to the event this year, we have decided to cancel the event altogether.”

The event, which was scheduled for Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., would have been the 13th annual “Breakfast with Santa” event. According to the release, Dawson County Parks and Recreation is hoping to resume the event next year under better conditions.

“We want to be able to offer this event to our community in the best way possible and we do not feel that the current circumstances will allow for that,” the release said. “We hope that 2021 is a better year for the event!”

Dawson County will be offering other community events for the holidays, including the annual Christmas parade and tree lighting hosted by the Dawson County Chamber of Commerce. The parade will be on Friday, Dec. 4 and will include Santa, vendors, music and more.

Due to the cancellation, the release encouraged citizens to attend events hosted by the Chamber of Commerce instead.

“We will send out additional information for this event in the near future,” the release said. “We are excited to be able to help promote this amazing community event to you since we are unable to offer our own this year.”
