The Boys and Girls Club of North Georgia is looking to expand into Dawson County. The club, which is chartered to cover Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin, and Dawson counties, has already begun service in the other three counties in its area and is starting the process to come to Dawson.

Boys and Girls Club of North Georgia Executive Director Michele Crawford-Brackin issued a press release about the expansion effort.

“The Clubs offer all young people a safe and positive place to learn and grow so that they become productive, caring and responsible citizens.  The daily work of our professional staff and volunteers ensures that every young person who comes through our doors graduate high school, college or career ready, demonstrating good character, and living a healthy lifestyle.  A growing body of evidence proves that our after-school ($50 per year with a sliding scale monthly activity fee) and summer learning programs are effective at improving grades, attendance at school and higher aspirations for graduates and going on to college or a technical school,” she wrote.

The press release also mentioned that “Boys & Girls Clubs of North Georgia is conducting a community needs assessment to determine if our services are needed in Dawson County.  If a need exists, it is our desire to meet that need.”
