Just in time for an influx of traffic for this weekend's Mountain Moonshine Festival, the Hwy. 9 bridge over the Etowah River will officially open tomorrow morning as crews with the Georgia Department of Transportation will be begin removing barrels, allowing traffic to travel in the new lanes.
According to a press release from the GDOT, electronic message boards will be located on each side of the bridge to indicate that the traffic pattern has changed. Temporary traffic signals will remain in place but will no longer control traffic across the bridge.
The bridge replacement construction took around two years to complete. The Southeastern Site Development, Inc. was awarded the project in October 2015 for the construction contract amount of $4 million.
Drivers are advised that this is still a work zone and additional
construction activities will be occurring for the next several weeks.
Please slow down as workers will be in close proximity to the lanes.
