Join LifeSouth Community Blood Centers on this Saturday to donate blood in memory of Charles Finley, a former Dawson County teacher who touched the lives of generations of students.

The drive will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, 415 Hwy. 53 in Dawsonville.

In his fight for life after an automobile accident, Finley received many blood transfusions, but unfortunately passed away in July 2012. His family hosts an annual blood drive to honor Charles, who gave so much to his community.

While all blood types are needed, O Negative blood (the universal donor) and platelets are especially needed.

All donors will receive a free T-shirt, umbrella or other LifeSouth recognition item and be entered in the raffle to win a LifeSouth gift basket. The Dawsonville Pool Room and Georgia Racing Hall of Fame are sponsoring this drive.

Blood donors must be at least 17, or 16 with parental permission, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. A photo ID is required.

LifeSouth donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with each donation.

For additional information on blood donation, contact LifeSouth at (888) 795-2707 or on the web at lifesouth.org.
