The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man from Dawson County who they say hit several motorcycles while traveling up Ga. 400 on Sunday afternoon and allegedly fired a gun at motorists who pursued him.
According to a Sheriff's Office incident report, at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, several motorcyclists reported to authorities that while traveling northbound on Ga. 400 with a pack of about 20 other riders, a tan or gold Ford F-150 truck "ran [the riders] out of their lane" and allegedly struck several of the motorcycles.
Although none of the riders were injured or crashed after being struck, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. Doug Rainwater, several riders from the motorcycle pack followed the truck from Ga. 400 to Hwy. 9 north into Dawson County in an attempt to stop the driver.
“The vehicle would break check the motorcycle pack and this would make them almost hit the pickup truck,” the report stated. “The vehicle would also block them from passing the [truck] by crossing the yellow line and blocking them."
When one of the motorcycles was finally able to pass the truck, Rainwater said, the truck’s driver Christopher Michael Brechka, 44, of Dawsonville, allegedly fired two shots at the rider with a revolver.
Brechka's alleged shots missed the rider, but several of the riders continued following Brechka until he stopped at the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, according to the report.
Rainwater said that after investigators interviewed the motorcyclists, Brechka and two passengers of the truck in Dawson County, Brechka was taken into custody by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
“Through our investigation we determined that Christopher Brechka, a 44-year-old male from Dawsonville, committed aggravated assault with a gun,” Rainwater said.
According to the report, investigators were able to download and view video from a GoPro that was worn by one of the motorcyclists and which allegedly showed “the pickup truck running the motorcycles out of their lanes.”
On Monday, Rainwater could not confirm whether the alleged gunshots were caught on video or if a gun was recovered from Brechka.
Brechka has been charged with aggravated assault with a gun and reckless conduct. He is currently being held in the Forsyth County jail under a bond of $11,735.
