A brief ceremony will be held Friday afternoon in observance of Arbor Day.

The Dawson County Tree Preservation Committee invites the community to the annual event at 3:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.

The group plans to plant a tree at the park in honor of the county’s Tree Preservationist of the Year, which will be announced that day.

Each year, the committee recognizes individuals who go to great lengths to preserve green space.

Past recipients include the county’s facilities staff, Jim Kinsey with Kinsey Farms, the Dawson County Woman’s Club, Ben Overstreet, the Dawson County Humane Society and George David.

Free seedlings provided by the Georgia Forestry Commission will be available at the ceremony.
