Amicalola EMC asks you to “round up” to help the community

For less than two cents a day, you can help your community.

Amicalola EMC’s Operation RoundUp is among the most cost efficient ways to help those in need in our communities. Never more than 99 cents a month, the average donation is about $6 a year.

In 1999, Amicalola EMC made the decision to participate in the Operation Round Up program. By asking members of the cooperative to “round up” their power bills to the next dollar amount, Amicalola EMC has been able to donate more than $2.4 million in food, shelter, clothing, health needs and education for those within the Amicalola EMC service area.

Grants are awarded four times a year, the most recent being in October where $19,475 was awarded to local nonprofits. The funds benefited Anna Crawford Children’s Center, Community Helping Place, Dawson County Rotary Foundation Inc., Friends of Cherokee County Public Library Inc., Georgia Mountain Food Bank, Gilmer Community Food Pantry, Goshen Valley Boys Ranch, Lumpkin County Education Foundation, Lumpkin County Schools, NOA’s Ark Inc., Pickens County Board of Education, Pickens County Toys for Tots and St. Vincent de Paul of Christ Redeemer.

Operation Round Up also assisted qualifying individuals with financial assistance to provide groceries, medical equipment, rent, propane, mortgage payment and house fire victim donations.
