Note:  A second tornado watch has now been issued for Dawson County and other areas across north Georgia. You can find more details on that weather alert here.

The National Weather Service has now issued a flash flood warning for areas including Dawson County.

Locations that are expected to experience flash flooding include the Dawsonville, Juno, Fausett Lake, Amicalola Falls State Park, Len Foote Hike Inn and Black Gap Shelter areas, the warning stated.

The flash flood warning will remain in effect until 8:45 a.m. Thursday.

So far, one to three inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall  of 1 to 2 inches is also possible, according to the NWS alert.

The rainfall could lead to flash flooding of places such as small creeks and streams, streets and other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Neighboring areas under the warning also include southwestern Lumpkin County, Dahlonega and northern Pickens County, among several other north Georgia counties.

“Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads,” the NWS warning stated. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.”

The warning also encouraged drivers to take caution when driving at night or in darkness, when it’s harder to recognize flooding dangers.

The National Weather Service previously issued and extended a tornado watch for Dawson and surrounding counties.
