The Dawson County Lady Tigers basketball team had a busy week heading into the Thanksgiving break that started with a pre-season scrimmage win over Rockmart and a loss on the road to Rabun County.

The Lady Tigers easily handled Rockmart on Nov. 14 with a 65-27 win behind the efforts sophomore Kaylee Sticker who put in 20.

On Nov. 17, the team traveled to Rabun for an early season test. The Lady Tigers lost 76-51.

"It was not a good night for the Lady Tigers," said Head Coach Steve Sweat. "We didn't play offense or defense. We have got many things to improve on this year."

Dawson went to half tied with the Wildcats at 21, but were outscored in the third quarter 20-9.

Sweat cited too many turnovers and missed layups.

Sticker again led the scoring with 14 points.

Kati Brady had nine points and Marlie Townley added eight. Emma Brown and Cadey Ayers each had seven points and Anna Lowe put in six.

Dawson County traveled to North Forsyth for the Thanksgiving tournament that began on Nov. 19. The team faced Creekview in the opening round.

After leading most of the first half, the Lady Tigers were not able to close out the game losing 42-33.

"They outscored us 28-15 in the second half," Sweat said.

Seven players scored for Dawson, but no one made it into double digits.

Abi Chatham and Sticker both scored six points, followed by Brady, Chloe Bennett and Calli Watson with five each. Townley added four and Maggie Schandera had one bucket.

The loss set up an early game on Nov. 21 against Alpharetta. Results were not available as of press time.

The junior varsity and varsity teams will face Habersham Central beginning at 3 p.m. on Nov. 26 at Habersham.
