Dawson County High School played host to a twice-rescheduled area duals wrestling meet last week and the Tigers finished in fifth place after an initial three-way tie.
"After scurrying around to make things happen due to weather, the tournament went well even with the altered format," said Coach Arron Haynes. "I thought our boys wrestled very well against Franklin and unfortunately came up a little short against North Hall."
Dawson first wrestled against Franklin County and got the 37-31 win, but lost to North Hall 42-33.
The team was unable to get a win in the tie breaker and consequently did not enter the top four bracket.
In the semifinals round, Lumpkin County beat Morgan County and Jackson County won over North Hall.
During the ensuing round, Lumpkin got the win over Jackson and Morgan won over North Hall.
The final order of the area duals was: Lumpkin, Jackson, Morgan, North Hall and Dawson.
"Now all focus is directed toward individual improvement as we prepare for the individual area tournament next week," Hayes said.
The team travels to White County on Jan. 17 and the junior varsity and varsity teams will wrestle at the Burnt Mountain Classic this weekend hosted by Pickens.
The area traditional tournament will begin Jan. 27 at Fannin and the state sectionals will be hosted by Morgan County beginning Feb. 3.
The season will finish with the state wrestling tournament starting Feb. 9 in Macon.
