The Dawson County High School wrestlers hosted Gainesville and Flowery Branch last week and soundly defeated both.

The Tigers won over Gainesville by a score of 75-6 and over Flowery Branch, 60-15.

Coach Arron Haynes was happy with the effort, particularly as the team celebrated its seniors.

"It was a great senior night," Haynes said. "The top wrestlers were Jeremy Whalen (182 pounds), Ethan Cowart (145 pounds) and Parker Kincaid (220 pounds), all seniors, all finished their home careers with two wins and they all finished with pins on the night."

During the event, future Tigers from the John Wayne Corcoran Wrestling Association wrestled on the mat next to the varsity program.

"It is always fun to watch the young ones," Haynes said.

The wins take the team to 23-7 overall.

The Tigers were scheduled to begin the area duals on Jan. 6 at DCHS, but the winter weather that moved in last Friday forced the event to be rescheduled for Jan. 9.

Impassable secondary roads caused Dawson County Schools to close on Monday, so the duals were once again moved to Jan. 10. Results were not available as of press time.
