It may be Christmas break, but for the Dawson County High Swim Team, that means additional time is available to prepare for the next meet.
"We will practice two days each week over Christmas break," said Coach Linda Sperin.
Meets are planned for Jan. 2 at Cumming Aquatic Center, the team's home pool, and also on Jan. 9 in Clarksville.
"The swimmers are working hard and improving all of the time," she said. "They are a fun bunch of kids to coach."
While the newly formed team has been swimming together for just the last two months, Sperin said she is already seeing vast improvements.
"Most swimmers we are competing against have been swimming for years and many swim year round," Sperin said. "Our swimmers have had great finishes for swimming for less than two months."
Jeff Drew is a team leader, who has made strong showings at recent competitions.
"He is a very strong swimmer with a great competitive nature," Sperin said. "He placed 23rd out of 108 swimmers in the 50 freestyle and 30th out of 101 swimmers in the 100 freestyle, swimming his fastest times in both events, in our last meet,"
