Winter weather all but shut down Dawson County last weekend and there was no exception for the schools and sports across the area.
Schools closed early on Friday in an effort to be sure all students and their families were safe and out of the way ahead of the arctic blast and between 2 and 5 inches of snow that fell.
All of the Dawson County High School basketball teams were scheduled to travel East Hall High School for games beginning with the junior varsity girls at 4 p.m. on Jan. 6.
As weather reports came in, the junior varsity games were dropped and the varsity games rescheduled for earlier in the afternoon.
Schools across Hall County continued to reschedule completely or cancel events and the East Hall matchups were rescheduled for Jan. 14. The junior varsity games were also rescheduled.
Start times for this Saturday's games are: junior varsity girls at 3 p.m., junior varsity boys at 4:30 p.m., varsity girls at 6 p.m. and varsity boys at 7:30 p.m.
The junior varsity girls and both varsity teams were also scheduled to play at Union County on Jan. 10 but those results were not available as of press time.
The DCHS swim team also suffered the consequences of the storm as the team was scheduled to travel for a meet in Clarksville at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 6.
According to Head Coach Linda Sperin, the team was also supposed to travel on Jan. 7 for a meet in Cumming which will be made up on Jan. 13.
The swim team did travel for a meet at White County on Jan. 10 but results were not available as of press time.
Also affected by the winter weather, the wrestling area duals were originally scheduled for Jan. 6 and 7 at DCHS. The event was first moved to Jan. 9 with Jan. 10 as an extra day for any matches that needed to be finished up.
After Dawson County Schools were officially closed on Jan. 9 due to impassable secondary roads, the duals were again rescheduled for Jan. 10 with 8:30 a.m. weigh ins. Those results were not available as of press time.
