Dawson County High School 2009 graduate Brittany Walker recently signed a soccer scholarship with Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tenn.

Hiwassee is the oldest 2-year college in the state. This year, the Tigers will move up to Division III status and offer some 4-year programs. Hiwassee has an enrollment of around 450 students and play teams such as; Truett-McConnell, Reinhardt College and Young Harris.

Walker will play for newly-named coach Mike Cline.

“We are very excited,” said Bill Walker, her father. “Brittany entertained a few other schools, but for one reason or another it just didn’t work out. Coach Cline called on a Monday. I thought it was a prank call, but he convinced us to come up and visit. Brittany totally loved the campus and she decided to accept his offer.”

Walker scored four goals from her forward position for Coach Rick Corwin’s Dawson County Tigers last season. Brittany lettered all four years in high school.

She has also played every position except goalie, while in high school.

According to her father, Brittany will be used as a utility player while at Hiwassee.

“She has played since she was 6-years-old, and excelled. She has worked hard to deserve this chance,” said her father.
